Xiaomi 15 series launch on October 29: Price, specs, and all you can expect

After rumours that Xiaomi will launch the flagship 15 series on October 23, the company has now officially confirmed that the launch in China will take place on October 29. The flagship series will include two smartphones, the Xiaomi 15 and the Xiaomi 15 Pro. The most high-end variant in the series –– the Xiaomi 15 Ultra –– is expected to release sometime early next year. Of the two, Xiaomi would likely only bring the Xiaomi 15 to India, similar to last year, when the Xiaomi 14 Pro never made it to the Indian market.
The Xiaomi 15 series is expected to come with a higher price tag compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 14 series. Rumours suggest that the new models might see an increase of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 over the previous versions. For reference, the Xiaomi 14 series had a starting price of Rs 69,999 in India. Therefore, the Xiaomi 15 could potentially be priced in the range of Rs 75,000 to Rs 80,000.
Regarding the Indian launch timeline, Xiaomi is likely to follow a similar pattern as last year, which means the Xiaomi 15 series may be released around March next year. The 15 series in India would mean the standard Xiaomi 15, and the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
The standard Xiaomi 15 is anticipated to maintain a compact form factor like its predecessors, the Xiaomi 14 and 13. Xiaomi’s global VP has also shared images of the Xiaomi 15 on his X account, confirming the design similarities of it to last year’s Xiaomi 14. The images confirm the same old square camera module, flat display, thin and even bezels, and flat, metal edges. The images also confirm a beautiful powder blue colour variant.
It could come with a 6.36-inch flat AMOLED display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, possibly using LTPO technology, similar to what was seen on the Xiaomi 14. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 15 Pro might feature a larger 6.78-inch quad-curved 2K AMOLED screen, offering the same 120Hz refresh rate along with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a DCI-P3 wide colour gamut for an enhanced viewing experience.
Both models in the Xiaomi 15 series are expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Built using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process, this chipset offers substantial performance improvements, including a new Adreno GPU that claims to be 45 per cent more powerful than its predecessor, providing smoother graphics and enhanced gaming capabilities.
In terms of memory, the Xiaomi 15 Pro is expected to offer up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage, while the standard model will likely start with 12GB of RAM.
For photography enthusiasts, Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica is set to continue. The Xiaomi 15 Pro may feature a 50-megapixel Light Fusion 900 series primary camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and macro capabilities, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. The standard Xiaomi 15 is rumoured to include a 50-megapixel OV50H main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 3.2x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide sensor. Both devices are expected to come with a 32-megapixel front camera.
Battery life improvements are also expected, with the Xiaomi 15 featuring a 5,500mAh battery with 90W fast charging and 50W wireless charging, while the Pro model might offer a larger 6,000mAh battery. Both phones are expected to carry an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and will introduce Xiaomi’s new HyperOS 2.0, based on Android 15.
